Barra, D W Mcgillivray

Dr D.W. Mcgillivray was one of the principal landowners in Barra, at the time he was heard by Lord Napier at Castlebay on 26 May 1883. The 1881 census shows him as a farmer of 3000 pasture and 70 arable, living at Eoligary House. Donald W Mcgillivray is married to Christina and has two sons, William L (29) and Murdock N (28). There are 18 other people in Eoligary House at the time of the 1881 census. We can trace him back to the censuses of 1871 and 1851; at the earliest census, he is not yet married.

Donald William Mcgillivray passed away on 13 February 1886 at the age of 77. He had suffered from Bronchitis. He was the son of William Mcgillivray, surgeon of the army and Effy Mcniel. He was survived by his wife Christina nee Mclellan, who passed away in 1909, aged 96.
