Farquhar Mcneill gave evidence to Lord Napier's Commission at Castlebay on 26 May 1883. We find him in the 1881 census in Carpenter's house (he is a carpenter), married to Margaret, with their children Norman (25), Donald (21), Catherine (14) and John (12). The 1871 census shows Farquhar as married to Peggy, an abbreviated form of Margaret. A child Herman (Norman?) is listed at age 16. The 1861 census has Farquhar married to Flord (?), and with 3 children, one of them being Norman, some 10 years younger than the Norman mentioned in the 1871 census. No earlier references are found.
In 1891, Farquhar is quoted at age 72, married to Margret. Their children are Donald, Catharina and John, with a 4-year old child "Margrit" listed as a boarder. She is more likely a grandchild, but the Ancestry transcript does not give that information.
Farquhar Macneil passed away on 25 November 1897 aged 77 at Creachan, Barra. He was the son of John (also a carpenter) and Catherine. Farquhar died after suffering pleurisy for 7 days, on top of many years of chronic bronchitis. He was the widower of Flora and Marion. His wife Peggy died in 1904 at the age of 68.
