Father James Chisholm was the Roman Catholic priest who gave evidence to Lord Napier's enquiry at Castlebay on 26 May 1883. I have only been able to find one reference to him in the censuses available at present, namely 1901. At that time, he is aged 46 and he lives in Barra with two domestic servants, Mary and Isabella Chisholm.
Canon James, as he later became, was moved to a parish at Arisaig, St Malrubha, in 1902.
He died on 30 May 1948 at the age of 94, at Beoraid, North Morar, a few miles north of Arisaig. He was suffering from atherosclerosis, myocarditis and pneumonia. James Chisholm was the son of Finlay Chisholm and Mary nee Mackay.
His achievements in Castlebay are listed on the Pentland Road blog.
A minor correction - his mother was Mary MACRAE.

Alastair, thank you very much. I have rechecked the record, and his mother's maiden name is indeed MacRae. May I ask, are you a descendant of Canon James?
