John Mackinnon gave evidence to Lord Napier's commission at Castlebay on 26 May 1883. Tracing him in the censuses has proved tricky, and I have only managed to find an incomplete record in the 1861 census, which appears to be a close match. There is a John Mckinnon who lives at Tangasdale in 1861, with his wife Mary and several children. The transcription on Ancestry is poor, and I have been unable to ascertain further reliable details.
