South Uist, John Walker

John Walker was the witness for North Boisdale when he gave evidence to the Napier Commission at Lochboisdale on 28 May 1883. There are two men named John Walker, born around 1800, in the 1881 census; one at Lochboisdale, the other at Boisdale; the registration district is also named Boisdale, which could cause confusion.

John Walker in Boisdale is married to Margret, who is 4 years younger. He only reappears in the 1861 census, when he is quoted as a farmer of 11 acres, with his children Marion (21) and Margaret (20) in the house.

John Walker died on 25 April 1888 at the age of 92 of old age and natural causes. He was survived by his wife Peggy [Margaret] nee Maclellan; the death was reported by his grandson. Margaret died a year later, at the age of 84.
